Home Invasion in McDuffie County

McDuffie County, Georgia – One man has been arrested after being shot during a home invasion in Thomson on the evening of December 3rd.

According to the Thomson Police Department (TPD), officers responded to call from a man who said his friend had been shot and was profusely bleeding.

As law enforcement responded to the scene, one officer somehow observed a black Dodge Charger with 2 handguns on the front seat, near the scene of the crime.

When officers arrived at the apartment located in the 500 block of Shiloh Rd at around 8:30 p.m., they found 25-year-old Larry M. Mance on the floor bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

While Mance was being transported to University Hospital McDuffie, 911 dispatchers advised officers someone had just been dropped off at the same hospital with a gunshot wound

When McDuffie County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived, they were introduced to 18-year-old Quinterious Bailey and determined that he was involved with the shooting on Shiloh Rd.

According to Thomson Chief of Police, Anson Evans:

“Bailey knocked on the door and Mance answered. A verbal exchange occurred at the door and Bailey started shooting,”

A woman who had been washing her hair in the apartment kitchen sink when the shooting occurred, told investigators she heard a knock at the door. Mance went to answer it, and she heard a shot, then Mance returned saying that he’d been shot.

Chief Evans said that Bailey then advanced into the home with his gun up, but was shot by Mance’s friend,

“As Bailey pointed the gun at the man, the man returned fire, striking Bailey several times and Bailey retreated. And fled away on foot,” the chief said.

“The Thomson Police are also checking to see if Bailey is involved in the recent robberies in the city,” he added.

Bailey was charged with 2 counts of aggravated assault, possession of firearm during the commission of a felony, and 1st degree home invasion. No one else was injured in the exchange of gun fire, but there no reports of Mance’s condition,
